The history of Kia begins on 9 June 1944, when the company was founded under the name Kyungsung Precision Industry. In its early years, Kia focussed on the production of steel tubes and bicycle parts. In 1951, the company launched Korea's first domestic bicycle, the Samchuly. This marked a significant turning point in the company's development. Finally, in 1952, the company was renamed Kia Industries, and from then on Kia began to become involved in various areas of vehicle production.
Kia took its first steps in the automotive business by producing small motorbikes under licence from Honda from 1957. Later, in 1962, the company began to produce trucks under licence from Mazda.
